Tangier to (almost) Chefchaouen

We set off late in the morning, perhaps a little too late, heading for Chefchaouen, the blue city, following the N2 highway. We have a long ride ahead of us! We see on Komoot that there is also quite a bit of elevation gain, but our legs are fresh, we are eager to travel, and our spirits are high. Once out of the heavy traffic of Tangier, we find ourselves on a national road that is just as busy, but there is enough shoulder for us to cycle safely, in theory. In fact, we find ourselves struggling against a strong headwind. Benjo reads 70 km/h on some app, and we can feel every bit of it. There are also strong side gusts that cause us to swerve considerably. The further we go, the more the drizzle turns into real rain and the shoulder becomes narrower. At the Tetouan junction, we cut through the mint fields. The scent is intense, as is the mud, unfortunately. But we have a break from cars. We soon return to the N2 highway, a little dirty and very hungry. Immediately to our right, we notice a gas station with a restaurant, butcher shop, mosque, and supermarket: much more than we could have hoped for! We devour our lunch and decide not to reach our destination but to stop at a motel along the road a few kilometers from the blue city and visit it as first thing tomorrow morning. Only another 35 km separate us, with a 600mt climb, but it is already 4:30 p.m. We set off at full speed! Fortunately, the rain stops and the wind calms down, or at least it is not constantly against us. We reach the top after two hours, just as the sun is setting. The light is beautiful and there is only a descent ahead of us. We are faster than the vans and we allow ourselves a few risky overtakes, arriving in a flash at the bottom of the valley, where the motel where we will spend the night awaits us. And it's just above a restaurant! The dinner is served!

Partiamo a bomba!
